The Gift
The Gift is a documentary film about Medal of Honor recipient, Corporal Jason L. Dunham and the men of Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines.
On 14 April 2004, Corporal Dunham was severely wounded after he smothered a hand grenade, dropped by an Iraqi insurgent during an ambush. In doing so he saved the lives of his fellow Marines. Corporal Dunham died 8-days later at Bethesda Naval Hospital with his parents and General Michael Hagee, Commandant of the Marine Corps at his bedside. He was 22.
The story will be told through present day interviews with the Dunham family as well as the Marines who served with Corporal Dunham, including Kelly Miller and Bill Hampton whose lives he saved.
The film will focus on how the events of that day have affected these men over the past 15-years… drug and alcohol abuse, post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, and in some cases, suicide. The film will show how these men continue to struggle as they try and move forward with their lives.
The story will culminate in the small town of Scio in Western New York, population 1200, as we bring the men of Kilo Company together – some for the first time – to meet the Dunham Family, pay their respects, and hopefully find closure to a tragic event that changed their lives forever.
